What's Wrong With America's Economy?
For grade 6 May 2011. Are the worries of the American people justified? What will happen if an impasse results on the budget in Congress? How do we get people working again? How do we keep up with China??

No, the worries of the people aren't justified.. I think it would be asinine to consider them justified, people are out of jobs now, but in every economic downfall we've been in we have always came back out. The people have to make the difference, and not having confidence in the economy is a huge drawback. To get people working, I would start fueling more of the budget into industries that promote job growth.
ReplyDeleteThe worries of the American people are not justified. Fixing an economy is not an easy task. People expected Obama to fix the economy right away. Unfortunately, things do not happen that way. I f there is an impasse on the budget in Congress, then the American people will become angrier. However, like Kyle said, Americans need to work together to put the economy back together.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Kyle, the fears aren't justified, however we do face a real problem and need a real solution. Job loss and industry are suffering and we have not even begun to fix the problem. While I sympathize with President Obama, improvements must be made in all faucets of American life. Manufacturing plays an extremely important role, without the ability to produce then we rely on others. And countries are fickle friends.
ReplyDeleteAs we see time and time again, and as this article dutifully points out, economics is a study in cycles. America is seeing its most perilous downturn in a generation, yes. But it is not beyond hope. The first step to getting people working again is accepting the fact that we are no longer a major industrial manufacturing power and moving on. Factory work is out, high tech, high skill service is in. We are the nation that went to the moon, if we can inspire entrepreneurs and innovators the same way that J.F.K. did in the 1960's we will guarantee America's continued prosperity.
ReplyDeletePeople are prone to bloated overeactions, especially when they don't understand what they are even complaining about. This downfall in our economy is a clear indication of the cycles presented in any economy. People with conflicted feelings should loosen up and stop pointing fingers at others without any moral justification.
ReplyDeleteIt's easier for people to point fingers at the authorities for their current problems because they don't know what else to do. That's how they relieve part of their stress. They expected the government, specifically Obama, to fix the unemployment problem and the economy overnight even though if they stop to think about, they would realize how ridiculous that idea is. The blame is the result of desperation and frustration, but mainly ignorance. I saw on the news that a woman, when asked about what she thinks about the high gas prices, she replied that "It's time for Obama to step down and let someone else take charge." Obama doesn't have anything to do with the high gas prices so it's not his fault. The economy will improve. Americans are definitely not justified in their extraneous worries.
ReplyDeleteThe worries of the people are not justified. As the article indicates, these cycles have been apparent throughout history. Eventually, our economy will rebound and be prosperous again. The American people need to understand that they need to get a job and get off the couch. We can compete with China by investing more overseas, but also expanding industries within our own nation.
ReplyDeleteThe economy goes through cycles, which is something we have been taught throughout the year. Even though the economy is in a downturn, the American people should not be having heart attacks over this. Since the economy cycles it will eventually be in an upturn, and we will be prosperous.
ReplyDeleteI think that the worries of the people are understandable but not justified. Our economy goes through cycles of recession and expansion all the time but the common person isn't as in tune with the workings of the economy. All they know is that right now there are bad times and they are concerned. Once their confidence in the economy returns then so will prosperous times.
ReplyDeleteThe worries of the American people are not justified because business cycles include both recessions and expansions. Sooner or later, expansion will occur. People just need to hang on in the meantime. We can get people working again if the government invests more money in the job sector. We can keep up with China if our nation is able to have continuous economic growth.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the worries of the American citizens are not justified because there were many other recessions just like this one in the past. People usually start going crazy when they see their economy declining and worsening. To keep up with China, we should invest more in oversea countries.
ReplyDeleteThe fears are certainly not justified because just as everyone else has pointed out, the economy of a country is cyclical and people cannot just expect to recover from this recession within the blink of an eye. In order to encourage growth, we need jobs. This can be achieved through the redistribution of our nation's budget. However, consumer confidence is still key.
ReplyDeleteThe worries of the people are not justified. For every bust there is a boom. Our economy will be fine in due time. The only dilemma is making that time happen soooon. For this, people need to have faith in the economy. People need to start workinggg.
ReplyDeletePeople tend to freak out about any little thing. Whether it be SARS, Y2K, bird flu, swine flu, [insert apocalyptic event here], we has seen it all. Yet in the end, ignorance never wins. Our economy will get back on track sooner or later, if we replace that ignorance with awareness.
ReplyDeleteBased on the greed of politicians to keep their jobs at the expense of the people the worries of the people are justified. Distractions like green energy though important, will not help our economy anytime soon if we are not willing to compromise our light bulbs just as we cannot get out of this economic slump if the politicians in congress cannot compromise. If a compromise is not reached we will shut down our government temporarily and it is easier to say nothing good will happen then list the bad effects. We stimulate the job market by educating our future, not taking away the funding. This would also help us keep up with China. Where would the extra funding come from? Cutting programs that aren't necessary to a majority or absolutely support a group of people.
ReplyDeletePeoples worries, though human nature, is not justified. With every fall there is a rise and with every rise there will be a fall which demonstrates the cyclical structure of our economy. To keep up with China we must enhance our standards for education, create jobs, and strengthen consumer confidence to build consumption spending.
ReplyDeleteIt is human nature for people to assume the worst and worry about the future. Unfortunately, that trait combined with the ignorant uneducated and foolish population that makes up a majority of americans is not a very good combination. We are a very different place than China. Our people will not sit in factories all day for pathetic wages. It would suck to live in China unless you were in the upper class. We don't have people who are willing to settle for a life of poverty as farmers and factory workers. We are no longer an industrial nation. That doesn't mean were screwed. Right now we are in a transformation stage and people need to wake up to reality. You will not be successfull without an education. You will not survive as a lazy bum. Jobs are scarce and competition is fierce. The faster we can adapt to this transformation, the faster we can ge out of this recession. And enough about competing with China. If you're not first, you're not last. So what if their gdp exceeds ours. America's dollar will still dominate because their government is a joke, as are living conditions for a majority of that country. Were not competing. Were significantly better.
ReplyDeleteThe American people should not worry just because the economy is in a bad state. Like everyone else has stated the economy is cyclical meaning it will go through bad times and very prosperous times. In order to keep up with China I feel America has to redistribute where the money is going, that way the economy can recover faster.
