The pros of the "right to work" would be such as have the choice to a union. However there are many cons to the "right to work" such as taking away the benefits as well as, not being able to protest for their rights. In addition, it is believed most of the unions are not in it for benefiting their supporters, instead it is all about the money. As another pro, there is no requirement for the payments of private unions.
ReplyDelete"Right to work" has sparked an uproar in Michigan. If this bill is passed, the cons that will result are weakened power of Unions, increased union dues, and less benefits for Union members. People are upset about this because the Union members that are already paying dues feel like they are being treated unfairly. However, there are many pros to passing this bill. It will give workers rights whether or not to join a Union, and not force them. Also, the Governor of Michigan is expecting the employment to greatly increase with the pass of this bill, based off the results that other states have had, after passing this bill.
ReplyDeleteThe "right to work" bill has pros and cons that are dependent on how you look at it. The Democrats argue that this bill is an attack on worker's rights, drawing this conclusion from the fact that the bill will weaken the collective power of unions in Michigan through the means of increased Union dues, and less benefits for members of Unions. The Republicans of Michigan, however argue that this bill is necessary in order to help the economy and jobs. The GOP insists that this legislation was not meant to weaken unions or collective bargaining, rather that it would make Unions more responsive to their members. In any case, the dissolution of Unions that will arise from this bill will certainly compromise worker's rights and cripple the ability of Unions to collectively represent workers. I believe that Michigan should maintain the status quo, as it has proven to be effective thus far.
ReplyDeleteThe right to work legislature is good for the companies, and bad for the workers. On one side this legislature will open up Michigan to more buiseness's, which will increas the state GDP. But on the flip side, the way Michigan get the new buiseness, is by reliquishing workers right to the buisness, effectively limiting the workers on what they can and can not do to ensure that they are being treated fairly. This is why business's are attracted to these types of locations, because it pretty much gaurenties them that they will not be bothered by any strong unions. I believe that Unions should be protected and that this new legislation is purely wrong. It is quite literally throughing the workers back nearly a century when workers had barely any right, and were forced to work in dreadful conditions and bottom of the bucket prices.

ReplyDeleteMaking Michigan a right to work state will decrease employees rights ironically. They will not be able to protest for their rights, and will have less power in unions. Benefits could potentially be taken away. If the change is put into affect then money will be taken away from workers, and industry heads will make more profit.
The pros and cons of “right to work” are that companies benefit, but workers suffer from the legislation. So if the legislation is passed, unions will lose their power and size, along with being forced to provide fewer benefits to their union members as well as making them members pay larger dues. Yet, the pros would be that businesses would want to go to Michigan because the Unions will be weakened. The Unions would lose their influence over businesses since workers will have an option to join a union or not. Also, because of the new in pour of business, more workers will be hired. I think that the legislation should not be passed because then you’re not helping the workers gain any benefits and making them spend more money than they have to with dues. And if they don’t join, then the workers will have no power to negotiate with the businesses, resulting in poorer working conditions for them.
ReplyDeleteThe right to work in Michigan will decrease the rights workers have in Michigan because it will become bad for the workers to lose more rights. The will not be able to vote on which rights they want and which right they dont want. The bosses will make more money if this bill goes into effect and the money they make will be taking out of the workers pay checks.
ReplyDeleteThere are many pros and cons regarding the "right to work." This bill strips the workers of any rights and power to protest and act for their rights. This is done by decreasing Union member size through the use of higher membership fees. These cons are followed by fewer benefits. The pros include a higher GDP for Michigan due to the increase in business, which also leads to a higher rate of employment. Businesses that make their way into Michigan have a higher chance of prospering since no strong union can fight against them. I do not believe this is right because it strips away a workers' rights and everything we have fought for in the past, People's rights. We have seen this before when workers and children were put under long strenuous working hours and conditions for little pay. I fear this may happen to Michigan (less severe) because history likes to repeat itself.
ReplyDeleteMichigan becoming a Right to Work state will likely decrease employees rights. The bill removes workers rights to protest and act out in defense of their rights. This can be accomplished by decreasing member size by raising member fees. It may lead to a higher level of business which would result in a higher GDP for Michigan. Businesses are no longer at risk for being fought by a Union. I do not agree with this because it strips workers of their rights, which have been fought for for years.
ReplyDeleteThe pros of "right to work" is that the laborers can fight for their rights, raises and other things. The con is that businesses would start to manipulate things because if labor unions are not strongly enforced, fighting for the rights would become much weaker. As a laborer I believe its better to have the right to work strongly enforced but if I was a business owner I would obviously go the other way.
ReplyDeleteThe "right to work" legislation has some pros and cons. Some pros of this legislation are that it gives people the choice of whether or not to join the union. This legislation also grants employees more rights. BUT the problem about this legislation are that even the people who are not helping fund the Union will receive the same benefits of those of the people who are in the union. Also this legislation will reduce the power of the unions and reduce the bargaining power of workers. The workers will have less and less power to.
ReplyDeleteMichigan becoming a "Right to Work" state will probably lower employees rights. The bill removes rights to protest. They do this by raising member fees and decreasing member size. It could result in a higher business level leading to a higher GDP. Businesses no longer worry about Unions. I do not agree with this because it takes away workers' rights and they've earned them.
ReplyDeleteIf legislation pertaining to the right to work movement is passed it will result in pros and cons. First, the cons will be weakened power of unions, increased union dues, and less benefit for union workers. Yet, the pros are that workers will get rights regardless of their affiliation with a union and no coercion will result. The governor of Michigan has forecasted an increased in the employment numbers in the event of a passage of the bill.

ReplyDeleteI think the right-to-work bill wont necessarily lower employee rights but people that use to have an advantage wont have it anymore and the work force would become more competitive. Pros are that people can remain independent of unions- its their freedom of choice whether or not they want to join. This gives people more options. A con is: in order to compensate, members may need to pay higher fees. Certainly people outside of unions favor this. I favor this as well because I believe no one should be forced to join a group. There are many advantages that can be found outside of unions.
ReplyDeleteIf Michigan becomes a right-to-work state some of the cons will be that employee advantage will not exist anymore. The pros of the situation are that companies will no longer be intimidated by the unions of the state and they will open companies in Michigan. As a result of new business' coming to Michigan the state economy will do better and be closer to operating at the profit-maximizing level. honestly, there is no way to really win in this situation. I would favor the right-to-work policies because people get a little demanding with all these "rights" that they deserve. There is no way for companies to meet all of a unions demands, produce at an efficient level, and make a substantial profit and frankly i think if one of the listed needed to be sacrificed it should be some of the union demands.
ReplyDeleteThe view of whether the right to work is a good or bad thing depends on the point of view. In the view of workers it has more cons because unions will become weaker and they'll lose protection and representation. In the view of the businesses it has more pros because they will be able to make more money because the workers wont't be protected and won't need to have as many benefits.
