ReplyDeleteI think that the effects of the government shutdown has been more widespread than I let myself think. It literally affects everyone in some way, shape or form. People can't afford their medication, can't feed their children and can't support their family because they are basically working for free. Most of the items on the partial list, I didn't imagine would be something deemed not important enough to continue to fund were not funded, for example the funding for the monitoring of incoming hurricanes and tropical storms. I do not think that this list should be permanent, it should be reevaluated cause I don't understand how they expect people to continue their lives with these conditions, so suddenly. Three things I would NOT cut from the list would be the ability for students to ride the bus to school (isn't education valued?), the ability for people to get health care and scholarships to the native Americans.
ReplyDeleteThis partial list is extremely startling. Its incredible how the foolishness as well as immaturity of a few politicians can slow down so many aspects of a country. The Government shutdown effects so many americans who are in desperate need of assistance from government funded programs. It is very disheartening to see all of these programs come to a standstill. These people that need this government help and depend upon it are going to take a significant blow. Some of these americans can NOT do without this assistance. I feel as if we should not make this list permanent, as some of these people will be significantly hurt by this shutdown and the detrimental efffects included on the list. 3 programs that i would not cut would be payments to 5,200 families eligible for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, Everglades restoration project funding, and Sea turtle monitoring in Florida. These programs all are integral to society.
ReplyDeleteWith the government shutting down, it has had a great effect on many of the Americans across the united states. Many people who are in need of many are not receiving because the government are simply not supplying them with the funds. Many government funded programs that have wages for their employees are not getting paid and now are literally working for free. In no such way or form should we let this list permanent because many of the people of the united states are dependent on a lot of the things listed. One of the things I would not cut is the veterans, including 100 Missouri State University students, will not receive federal tuition assistance. These veterans are dependent on the money because it’s the only income that they receive and the college needs the money for attending college and earning an education. Some of the other things I wouldn’t want cut are the Nursery plants in Virginia may die waiting to be given to defense installations and how farm and livestock producers are lacking basic information to make business decisions.
ReplyDeleteThis government shutdown and the effects that it has caused is overwhelming, it has caused problems to everyone living in the United States in some shape or form such has problems in medication, small businesses, and even to farmers. The people of the United States cannot go on with these things on the list since they provide a vital need to survive such as medication. This list should not be permanent since it will greatly hurt society as a whole and in turn affect the entire population. I would personally not cut #44, 43, and problems related to #32.
ReplyDeleteThe partial list of the effects of the government shutdown is overwhelming. I personally think that this list affects everyone, whether directly or indirectly. We can not do without the items on this list. Many jobs and livelihoods are at jeopardy, and will continue to be at jeopardy until this list recedes. This list should not be permanent because wildlife and other public areas need to be attended to, and many Americans need their jobs to support themselves financially. There are 3 items on this list that I would not cut. Pig virus monitoring, for the safety of the public, should not be cut. Timber contracts for national parkland should not be suspended, and congress should consider a farm bill for dairy farmers.

The partial list that was provided listed many necessary services and actions. It’s sad to see how many services are being delayed and cut off due to the government shutdown. We probably couldn’t do without all these items on the list. Some of the things are very mandatory to people’s future and economic well being. This list should not be permanent, because all of the damage it is doing and all the damage that will come from furthering the shutdown. Three things I would not cut out would be #3 Congress’ failure to consider a farm bill because the shutdown is hurting dairy farmers, #18 The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and #30 Farm and livestock producers are lacking basic information.
ReplyDeleteI find it ridiculous that our Congress and government has gotten to this point. We elected respected people to hold office that eventually just ended up acting like kindergarteners, reading Dr. Seuss, and being childish. People who desperately need money and sustenance are now at a deficit. Veterans cannot receive their benefits and so many people are now out of work. To a degree, we need all of them items on the list because they all power the economy for a greater good. Therefore, three things I would not cut are veteran benefits, Habitat for Humanity, and bus rides for school kids.
ReplyDeleteObamacare has indirectly caused the government shutdown. The partial list provided mainly talked about some immediate consequences of the government shutdown. Apparently, these causes are very miserable; the government has halted all of these things that people need in their society. We should NEVER make this list permanent. #1:Bus transportation for students should not be cut at all because students would be discouraged to go to school if they do not have basic conditions like bus transportation. #2:Government should not cut the scholarships because scholarships motivate students to do better, if not worse, in their education in order to have stronger human capital in our society. #3: We should not cut health care budget because there are people who really need medical assistance.
ReplyDeleteThe partial list provided showed a lot of the things necessary within in a system. The effects of the Government shutdown have caused more problems for American than people assume. We couldn't do without all the things on the list. Most of them are extremely important for not only safety but also for the futures of the people. The three things that i wouldn't cut out would be #37 The Department of Justice is seeking a delay in a National Security Agency case. # 18 Officials at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are growing frightened. #3 Congress' failure to consider a farm bill because of the shutdown is hurting dairy farmers.
ReplyDeleteIt was very upsetting to see the partial list. I didn’t even know of all these huge and small things that were funded by the government, and now all the people supported by the programs have to suffer over the selfishness of a few people in Congress. Everyone seems to be affected by the list in some small way at least. It’s absolutely ridiculous that the shutdown has lasted this long, and a few people can hold the rest of the country back and hurt so many people dependent on the government. The whole point of a government is to help its citizens and if that doesn’t happen, then the people in our Congress need to seriously reevaluate. We definitely can’t do without most items on this list. People were suffering economically before the shutdown, how are they supposed to function after all these deficits? We shouldn’t make it permanent. Everything on the list seems necessary and indispensable, but we especially shouldn’t cut school bus services for kids, health clinic services, and work in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
ReplyDeleteThe partial list of that displayed the impacts of the government shutdown were incredibly shocking. I was unaware the shutdown would effect things on a community level. The results of the government shutdown were much more widespread than I would have originally expected. Although I believe some parts of the list have priority over the others, I still think every aspect mentioned needs to be taken care of very soon. Every item on that list is important to someone, and all citizens are equal, so there is not one aspect that should remain unassisted. The government is meant to help the country and it's people but shutting down for greed filled reasons goes against their purpose. Although I would not like to cut anything from the list, border patrol, school buses, and pony corralling in Virginia definitely must stay on the list.

DeleteThis list is actually pretty hilarious (in a cynical way) when you consider just how little Congressmen seem to care about how their actions are affecting the people who elected them. Most of the things on this list seem pretty serious, but at the same time there are several that aren't as threatening as others. The impact on farmers is something we need to weigh heavily, since food is pretty important. The amount of business food trucks in D.C. isn't really as important on a national scale. Three things that should not be cut are OSU's research money, Medicare, and the delaying of the discussion of the farm bill (a delay which is hurting farmers immensely).
ReplyDeleteThe partial list caused by the government shutdown is astounding. I was unaware of how many people and programs were actually affected after the shutdown. After reading this list I am starting to realize how necessary government involvement really is right now. With families not receiving assistance or medicine, and companies losing thousands of dollars, many people are suffering in the process. This list should not be made permanent because if it were, all of these people would suffer even more. Some of these items on the list Americans rely heavily on, and without them our society would not be able to operate efficiently. Three items on this list I would not cut are veteran benefits and assistants, government subsidies to farmers, and providing school buses for children.
ReplyDeleteThe partial list scares me, mostly because of how much is actually on it. It's unbelievable the amount of things that we take for granted because the government is up and running. Under shut down, it seems, the list of things we never even knew we had doubles every few minutes. We certainly cannot do without all the items on the list, and it should most definitely not become permanent. Three things off this list that I would NOT cut would be the shutting down of federally run websites, blood tests being suspended, and pig virus testing. Way too many people eat way too much pork, and that could end very badly if they didn't test our future bacon for viruses.
ReplyDeleteMany things on the list seem trivial but amount to a significant dent to the stability of the U.S. Dairy farmers and cotton farming in Georgia have taken a hit from the government shutdown. The U.S. could maybe do without some environmental programs but only temporarily. None of these things should be cut permanently and I would never cut weddings in national parks, farm subsidies, and border patrol training.
ReplyDeleteThis partial list is very infuriating to me in that it was created all because a group of "adults" are acting like children. All the different organizations and people on the list are being affected in some way and Congress just does not care. That just shows perfectly how little you can trust politicians. This list should not become permanent because it would be extremely detrimental to the people on the list. There are some things on the list that we may be able to do without, but only for a short while before the affects get worse. Some items that I would not cut are Border patrol training because we need to have protection, Everglades restoration project funding because we are losing parts of the Everglades everyday, and pig virus monitoring because that can affect public health.
ReplyDeleteOkay so this is absolutely a disgrace. Once upon a time other nations actually looked up to us. It's extremely perplexing to know that there are people that can't feed their families and pay their bills because of inane congressmen....The things listed on this partial list all mean something to someone. Of course some things can be done without to save money but being that they have already been funded, the people involved in them have grown to love something about it. It just isn't fair to snatch away people's hard work and livelihood. Again. I don't believe anything from this list should be cut. Everything on the list means something to someone and I don't believe it should be taken away. The list definitely shouldn't be made permanent...
ReplyDeleteThe partial list that was formed was incredible, it was literally outrageous, too much for my eyes to handle. It's amazing how many things we take for granted in our everyday life. And we see when we have a government shutdown. Three things that I would not take of this list is definitely border patrol in Mexico, 2. Stopping 5,200 families in Arizona aiding by making temporary payments to them. And lastly 3. And for the veterans who will not receive tuition assistance including 100 Missouri university state students.
ReplyDeleteThe partial list caused by the government shutdown is astounding. I was unaware of how many people and programs were actually affected after the shutdown. The impact on farmers is something we need to weigh heavily, since food is pretty important. The amount of business food trucks in D.C. isn't really as important on a national scale. Although I would not like to cut anything from the list, border patrol, school buses, and pony corralling in Virginia definitely must stay on the list.
ReplyDeleteThe partial list resulting from the government shutdown is just disappointing. I was unaware of how many people and programs were actually affected after the shutdown, and now that I understand--to a greater extent--the consequences of a government shutdown, I see how vital it is for government involvement. The whole point of a government is to help its citizens and if that doesn’t happen, then the people in our Congress need to seriously reevaluate. People who desperately need money and sustenance are now at a deficit. People can't afford their medication, can't feed their children and can't support their family because they are basically working for free. We certainly cannot do without all the items on the list, and it should most definitely not become permanent. Three things that I would NOT eliminate are: school bus rides for children, health clinic institutions, and veteran benefits, as these are all necessary and integral parts of our country.

ReplyDeleteRefusing to administer blood tests. Pulling down NASA websites. “Federal investigators can't inspect a fatal Metro accident in Washington, D.C.” That last one is absolutely absurd. I would not allow these things to happen if it were up to me. Some of the items surprised me and most of them didn’t. I wish most of them weren’t the case though some of them didn’t seem so bad. I would cut funding to race based scholarships any day. Obviously the list can’t be permanent. If it gets to a certain point based on what I read in the article, I wouldn’t be surprised if there were a civil war. I doubt it will get to that point though. Bottom line, people need to start getting paid soon before more poop rolls downhill.—Ian Hunt
ReplyDeleteThe partial list created as a result of the shutdown is unreasonable and unnecessary. These are the livelihood of many people that congress is playing with because they have big egos.We can certainly do without many of the items on the list, like sugar daddy websites, as well as round up wild ponies. Though there are things we can't get rid of like Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, NASA websites, and Border patrol these as well as others are important for safety, opportunity, as well as making a comfortable living.
ReplyDeleteThis partial list is unnecessary, mainly because we need to worry about the bigger picture. Many people who need government funded care and welfare are not getting the help they need. It doesn't matter what color anyone is, it matters that we get this government shutdown ordeal over with! The most dangerous part is our borders have no protection from illegal aliens! Because the gov is shutdown, the protection we need on our borders is not there. I honestly believe that we will have a civil wars on our hands in the coming days..
ReplyDeleteAs a teenager who pays no taxes, receives no living assistance, and has no financial aid needs, I haven’t realized how the recent government shutdown has detrimentally affected the lives of so many in both large and small ways. The HP list is an eye opener. As I read the partial list of 50, I was saddened to see how the shut down extends its reach into some of the most important and urgent needs of its citizens who receive governmental assistance to keep food on the table, a roof over their heads, and a semblance of human integrity. I was saddened to know that there are hundreds of thousands of people working for the government that do not know when they will receive their next paycheck to care for their families. Overall, I am saddened to realize that the government plays a much larger role in the average American citizen’s life than I ever realized was possible and with that, I was maddened to think that this government “of the people, by the people, and for the people” could be controlled by a bipartisan tug of war. I find it very difficult to choose just three on this list to re-fund, but if I must choose, then it would be financial assistance to those 5,200 Arizona families, the reinstatement of the Center for Disease Control, and funding to the free health care centers around the country.
ReplyDeleteIt was disheartening to read the partial list. I was surprised by the amount of services and programs that have been affected by the shutdown. It's especially disappointing that the pain of many is in the hands of a few. I find it ludicrous that this could be going on still! The elected officials in the congress were elected to represent the needs of their constituents, and they are clearly not taking this into consideration. Everything that the government provides is provided for a single reason: someone needs it. That the congress would allow the fulfillment of these needs to be stopped indefinitely is hurtful to say the least. There are people who can't do without the items in this list, especially health-related services, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and education-related services like the bus service.
