Facing the Consequences

For grade 10 Dec 2010. What public good policies will governments need to implement to contend with as global warming persists? What industries will be most affected? How will global warming affect farm yields?

20 comments:

  1. Adaptation is a public good policy the government will need to implement to contend with as global warming persists. Such as flood barriers, as said in the article, and mitigation. Also, Redistribution of communities will need to happen, movement of the rich and poor into different areas. The industries that are going to be most affected agriculture, aquaculture, and industries that burn fossil fuels to manufacture goods (such as the automobile industry). The global warming now, I believe is damaging farming yields, it's hurting certain crops. But if this is put into place and works the way it's proposed, then the farm yields should increase and hopefully we'll have some fairly priced fruit in this country.

  2. Public good policies that the government should implement are preparation for the future and to adapt to the existing condition now. By preparing for the future, I mean to say that the government needs to urge people to be ready to face any obstacles in the future. For instance, more hurricanes due to the increase in temperature. Furthermore, people need to adapt to the condition now by starting to use eco-friendly products and reduce CO2 admissions into the atmosphere. One way to do this is to buy fluorescent lightbulbs or carpool. The industries that will be most affected would be the manufacturing industries that either produce gas-fueled cars or release Co2 into the atmosphere. Global warming will affect farm yields by increasing the yields. An increase in temperature in the summer may cause many produce to rot faster. In addition, the colder winters would freeze the crops.

  3. Global warming will negatively effect farm yields for 2 reasons. The melting of the polar ice caps will cause for a rising sea level causing a shrinking body of land. This will cause the price of land to rise making the option of farmers selling the land more desirable for inefficient producers. In the long run all industries will be affected but the most affected will be the energy industry. The push for green energy has given the energy industry a face lift. Countries around the world are investing to make their country one of the first to run on clean energy. People are buying more solar panels then ever before. Nuclear energy is actually being given more green lights since the Chernobyl incident and new ideas like algae bio-fuels and hybrid vehicles are being funded more then ever before. The energy industry has definitely changed and will continue to change the most due to the environmental crisis.

  4. As global warming persists, governments may need to institude policies such as emmisions restrictions on manufacturing or requiring moving people or industries to reallocate land for more efficient purposes. Agriculture and its realted industries will be most affected by these policies. Global warming will increase farm yields, as will new policies geared at making the farming practices as efficient and eco-friendly as possible.

  5. Public good policies the government will need to implement would be revolved around preparing for the future when global warming had the potential to become an issue. This includes pollution, population, different land sources, and eco-friendly products/machines. Industries that will be effected the most are the farming industries. The farm yields will be increased because of the drastic temperature changes that will take place during summer and winter.

  6. Public good policies for governments to follow would be for them to implement preparations for incoming global difficulties through the construction of public work projects such as constructing levee's and dams. Agriculture would be the industry faced with worst problems in the future, if world temperature does increase. Farm yields will be poor in many countries as wide spread drought may spread.

  7. Global warming, as evidenced by the article, will continue to occur for a number of years. the government needs to implement new initiatives and laws in order to slow this process. it will be extremely detrimental to our world if we do not slow this process down. crop yields will decrease because over time the high temperatures will shrink the glacial ice caps and there will be less arable land.

  8. As the threat of global warming looms on the horizon, it is absolutely essential for the government to institute new laws and procedures. These laws might involve a reduction in air pollution and an increase in usage of eco-friendly products. The agriculture industry is threatened by a rise in global warming. Fluctuations in temperature may lead to significant drop in crop yields. Farmers might eventually become unable to provide certain products that have become staples of our society.

  9. Global warming is a present and a future problem that will worsen if not dealt with properly by the government. The government would need to propose laws that require companies to reduce co2 admissions or maybe even offering tax rebates for switching to eco-friendly equipment. Industries that will be affected would be farmers and companies that release insane amounts of co2. These high and low temperatures caused by global warming will have a devastating effect on crop yields.

  10. The governmemt should begin preparing for a possible shortage of resources. Global climate change has the capability of affecting the supply of avaliable resources in the world. Several are crucial to human life including crops, water, and timber. Temperature changes will transform the climate of land and marine areas. For instance, forested areas (which provide vital human resources) affected by climate change can transform into an arid desert, eliminating the resource supply in that area. Factories should reduce their output of Co2 emissions, invest in green technology, such as solar and wind power, and protect natural areas and waterways that are affected by their output.

  11. The government should begin implementing policies that help prepare for the changes to come with the climate changes of global warming. The industry most affected by this policies would be industries with high emissions such as factories. However, the policies should boost the eco-friendly industries like solar power. The farm will decrease as the land becomes overrun by the sea levels rising as the polar ice caps melt. This decrease in supply of land will cause an increase in price as well making it harder for new farmers to enter the industry.

  12. The government should encourage the people to start preparing for future climatic changes and perhaps we should begin to stock up our resources/supplies such as food, batteries, and clothing as well. The industry that is most likely to be affected by global warming is agriculture. The glaciers are melting rapidly so scientists logically deducted that most of the land will be underwater, therefore, we won't be able to farm since most of the land would be heavily populated by people. The policies should encourage the use of eco-friendly power sources such as more-efficient lightbulbs and solar panels.

  13. Agriculture industry will become affected on a large scale if global warming continues to be a threat. Widespread droughts could plague the poorer countries. In some areas land might become flooded with water due to melting of ice caps. People would move to areas that are not heavily damaged by global warming creating dense population and no rural land to farm. The government must implement preparation policies.

  14. I believe global warming is not the correct term when addressing these questions because the climates across the globe are changing and becoming more extreme, not simply warming. The government should work on projects not only to prepare our world for the frigid winters and blazing summers ahead of us, but projects that will lead to preserving the parts of the earth that we can now. We cannot stop the temperature from changing directly, but we can minimize greenhouse gases to preserve the ozone layer which protects our atmosphere from the sun. Agriculture will be affected in the poorest way by these changes in climate because the crops will freeze in the winter and wither in the summer. Such events would lead to a decreased farm yield.

  15. The government should prepare us right now for the future where global warming will be a very huge issue.Farming industries will be most affected by global warming because crops are not adapted to this quickly changing weather. Farm yields will decrease profoundly because the weather will eventually destroy the land that was suppose to be used for farm land.

  16. The government will need to implement adaptation policies as global warming persists. As stated in the article, we need to consider flood barriers and mitigation. Redistribution of communities is critical, movement of the rich and poor into different areas. The industries that are going to be most affected are agriculture, aquaculture, and industries that burn fossil fuels to manufacture goods (the automobile industry). The global warming is damaging farming yields and hurting crops. Then the farm yields should theoretically increase. The policies should boost the eco-friendly industries like solar power too.

  17. The government has to take into account the issues that will arise in the future due to global warming. The government has to act right now to help protect citizens from the worsening effects of global warning. The industries that are most affected from this issue agriculture and anything else that correlates with the environment and nature. The farming yield will decrease due to worsening side effects of global warming and rapid climate changes.

  18. The government must implement certain policies to prevent the disasters that will come with global warming. This includes barries for certain phenomena, such as flooding. The industries that will be most affected are definitely those that deal with natural resources as factors or inputs, mainly agriculture. Farmers will be devastated by reduced yields since flooding will reduce the size of land available for planting. Increased temperatures will also prove to be disadvantageous to certain types of crops and their development.

  19. Adaption is a public goods policy that governments will have to implement. Lots of change needs to take place in order to make it through this global warming with as little damage as possible. The industries most affected include industries that seek profit through the burning of fossil fuels, gas and oil companies, green companies, and agriculture. Global warming is affecting agriculture in that it is significantly reducing the amount of farm yield, raising prices. The new proposal is sure to eliminate this problem in time.

  20. The government should implement the policy of adaption in order to most effectively survive this oncoming situation and avoid catastrophe. This includes movement of the people and flood prevention. Global warming is likely to affect industries such as agriculture, car manufacturers, and gas companies. Not all will suffer a loss though. Companies focused on conservation, reconstruction, and renewable energy will grow at an alarming rate. Global waring, though currently lowering farm yields, will not be doing so for much longer.
