Well, I don't really think this video has much value beyond some gentle comedy. It's not like he's discussing complex economic issues or anything of significance, he's simply stating that the recession is hurting everyone. Talk about a newsflash.
I thought it was funny - to me, the recession does not seem to be hitting everyone...the lines are still packed as Disney, the tables at restaurants are still full, and there are no parking spots at the mall. I think that the recession just hit others harder than some, but this video is saying that everyone was effected. Funny...
I thought that this video served more as a comedy than anything else. It points out the obvious with the recession affecting poeple, some more than others, but we already know that. This parody doesn't really shed light on anything we hadn't known before.
Haha :) This video was pretty funny. Everyone's right though, it is just a comedic way of getting people to realize what's going on with the economy. It's just a little humor to "lighten the mood." It shows how everyone is affected. Even the "bosses". They're still "bosses," still "gettin' checks" but "just a little less." I liked it!
Ally you're halarious. I thought this video was ridiculous. It says we're in a recession so use coupons. The recession hasn't hit every consumer, but it has hit the producers. Compared to a year ago, the mall is EMPTY. I literally sit at work and text all night because there's no customers. Last year we doubled our sales this year and we barely make our quotas.
Comedy and issues do not mix well when it comes to making people take certain things seriously. The government has been spewing out warnings about a depression and more recently the recession and yet not everyone has completely changed their lifestyle because of it; there is no need since the effects are not affecting everyone. Artists especially will not be changing their ways simply because a newscast tells them to.
I thought this was a funny video. I think that two points that were pretty obvious were that some people still have money and some of the rich still are being hit by the recession.
Ian, come on! Do we really need a music video to make that apparent? There have already been countless new reports on it and we hear about it through social interaction as well. This video was just a humorous meditation, nothing more than The Daily Show implementing the current economic situation to pull in ratings. A funny pair of music video that you can find on Youtube that have an underlying theme about our economic depression are the Hastily Made Cleveland Tourism Videos (the second one even makes fun of Michigan, Detroit to be specific).
Maybe we do need a video, Garret. Sure, we know there's a recession going on, and it's difficult to even imagine anyone out there who doesn't know it's going on. But maybe it's not so much we need the video to make people aware of it but to let people know of it's impact. This isn't some tax on the middle class and we're all mad about paying more money, this is about a huge economic recession we're going through where thousands of people are being laid off, wages are being cut, prices on certain goods have increased dramatically, and that's only part of it. The video assists people so they can see that everyone is hit by the recession, even celebrities and the rich and famous, though more-so the general public, because it costs us more.
Besides being entertaining, the video promotes a great way to save money, coupons!

ReplyDeleteI thought the video was hilarious, even if it pointed out the obvious. It's good to know that even in a recession people still have a sense of humor.
ReplyDeleteyes. very funny, ms meachum. Loved the reference to John Maynard Kaynes.

ReplyDeleteJust comedy making a simple statement and nothing else. Funny, but has no feasible content value.
ReplyDeleteThough I did love that satire on rap music videos.
