For grade ending 4/22/2011. What parts of this plan do you agree with? Disagree? From an ECONOMICS standpoint, what are the backend costs of implementing this budget agreement?

Cutting spending in programs like Medicare and Medicaid has some detrimental effects because people who are entitled to these benefits would now have a greater cost to use them. Other cuts like education and environment are foolish because our nation should be improving these aspects in order for the U.S. to become more competitve with other countries.
ReplyDeleteMedicare and Medicaid are being cut largely, shows how much we care about our elderly, that I would disagree with. The lower taxes on wealthier Americans and corporations I would agree with. Back-end costs of this budget agreement are people are not going to even have healthcare anymore, going to be far to expensive to take care of the older people. And why keep cutting education, should we all just be stupid?
ReplyDeleteI disagree with most of it. Medicare and Medicaid literally save lives and we are going to cut it so the elderly can't afford to stay as healthy as possible? And to top it all of let's let some corporations and wealthier people pay less taxes. I don't know; obviously there are people who disagree with me but this plan doesn't seem to make any sense. Economically, the back end costs of this plan are going to be all of the programs being cut, especially education.
ReplyDeleteThere's not much I agree with in this plan. Cutting Medicaid and Medicare from the elderly is wrong and shouldn't be done. However, the part of the plan that concerns me most is cutting housing, education, and the environment. Cutting education is probably the one that will affect me the most. Cutting education has huge back-end costs. It leads to more drop-outs and less teachers to teach the students. Thus, there are bigger classes and a larger population that is less educated. Moreover, cutting spending on the environment affects everyone. If we continue to cut spending on the environment, we will see more polluted cities and sick people. They're already cutting medical care for the elderly, now we're going to cause more problems for them by cutting spending on the environment? These cuts just can't be done. On the other hand, I think cutting taxes on wealthier Americans and corporations will benefit us by creating more jobs and reducing the unemployment rate.
ReplyDeleteI do not entirely agree with the budget plan. It does cut the budget dramatically, however instead of raising some taxes or at least keeping them the same level, it cuts many. It sacrifices care for the elderly all the while leaving the rich untouched. The education cuts are also worrying, however it will allow us to stop so much deficit spending.
ReplyDeleteThe budget plan is actually quite scary. The number of programs there cutting will hurt us in the end as we find ourselves in an uneducated (likely crime-ridden) society. Meanwhile the I think the cuts to Medicare and Medicaid will only hurt us more because it will make prescription medicines and preventative tests and procedures more expensive, causing a more unhealthy population and more crowded, less efficent, hospitals. Finally, the added tax cuts are a concern. So far, the tax cuts to the wealthy haven't helped much, I don't think decreasing government revenue is going to decrease the debt.
ReplyDeleteThe budget plan calls for the cut of Medicaid and Medicare. If we do this the elderly and less fortunate will suffer even more than they already. We can just ignore the existence of elderly and poor and dependence they have on the government by slowly taking away all programs that support them This will just greater a great issue that is even more detrimental to the U.S. than the current. These programs save lives and keeps less fortunate children and adults healthy so they can be productive during the school/work day and not spread illness. Changes need to be made, but not here.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the lowering of spendings for defense and reduce US responsibility and commitment abroad. However, a major part of the bill focuses on cutting spendings in education, environment, Medicare and Medicaid. If the bill is passed, older people over 65 are forced to pay 2/3 of their health insurance. Reducing spendings by the trillion could lead to an increase in crime rates and older people dying alone in a cold room and people with mental disorders end up on the streets.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with cutting so many highly needed plans. Education is a huge problem in America to begin with, and I don't see how cutting spending on it would help increase the success in it. Also Medicare, and Medicaid are needed buy many people, it would be harming a huge amount off America if they cut spending on it. These programs were installed to help save people and keep people safe, and cutting the spending would basically be the goverment telling us that they don't care about the citizens. All of this would lead to higher crime rates, and more homelessness.
ReplyDeleteOverall, this plan does not seem appealing whatsoever, but some of this stuff just has to be done. I mainly disagree with the cuts on healthcare such as Medicare and Medicaid because taking care of its people, especially the elderly, is something I believe the government is entirely responsible for. It is also bizarre that education is being cut on such high levels. The last thing our country needs right now is a dumbed down population. I tend to be neutral on the issue of tax cuts for the rich and corporations because although it seems unfair, it is true that corporations need incentives to continue their business here. Backend costs to this plan include the spread of ignorance, the death of many people, and overall a lowered standard of living for the poor and a higher one for the wealthy.
ReplyDeleteCuts are necessary right now, and nobody wants to get rid of anything, so no matter what the budget is, people are going to be unhappy and say the government is the spawn of the devil. Whatever.
ReplyDeleteI think cutting education is just typical at this point because politicians don't really care about it and have no idea whats going on when it comes to public education. Who needs brains these days, we'll all just be idiots who know how to social network. Do I think its wrong? Yes. Will I probably be forced to send my kid to private school? Yes. Such is life.
As for the rest of it, yes its really sad that all the poor and old people are loosing money. And it's going to be awful. But the US needs to cut right now, and our entire economy is a lot more important than my cute grandma who has a 3 minute memory.
This plan truly is quite scary, but, in reality, a lot of these cuts are probably necessary. Cutting back on anything is cause for disagreement, but it's one of the few options we have left. What I disagree most with is the cuts on education. This sector has already suffered so much, and it is probably one of the most crucial in the further growth and development of our country.
ReplyDeleteThe U.S. government needs some serious cuts at the moment. It is running huge deficits by spending more money than its bringing in. The problem faced by the government today is where to cut. They are mostly aiming towards much needs programs like education and social security. But by cutting such essential programs this stunts the growth of the economy and the looks of our future is pretty scary.
ReplyDeletethe bill calls for cuts to medicare and medicaid and i am against this because i believe that it is the governments duty to help the elderly and to make cuts on such a crucial program to those who have contributed so many years of their lives to make this country what it is today is outrageous.also, the cuts to education are ridiculous also we already dont have paper what else are they going to take away. i believe that cuts need to be made but the focus shouldnt be on our education system and our medicare, it should be on national defense where we spend far to much money in my opinion,i believe that we should tax the wealthy more and in turn we will have more money.
