The ten individual jobs show in the article are categorized based on the years 2002 and 2012 with an estimation of 20000 employees or more in the job category. Each job is in such high demand with each individual reason such as the Personal Care Aids for example. The Personal Care Aids is in this list because the alarming baby boom that is rising and the senior generation that is slowly growing as well. Our economy could also be a factor such as high paying jobs or high unemployment rate for such high demand for some of these jobs. Seeing this list does not change my career choice for a higher demanded occupation. Although it would be more beneficial to have a job career that is easier to find due to its higher demand, my primary reason for the career that I choose to purse is for both satisfaction and money.
ReplyDeleteThe top 5 fastest growng jobs in America (in order) are unit operators, petroleum engineers, music directors, interpreters, and massage therapist. I was surprised that out of all jobs, service unit operators are first. I didn't even know what those are! I believe the reason for the growth in that industry is because oil and gas and other fossil fuels are in such high demand right now. Petroleum engineers make a lot of money. The reason for this high pay and growth is because the oil industry is very big right now. "In the past decade, oil prices have risen dramatically, possibly accounting for much of the profession’s estimated 227% job growth." I was most surprised about the third fastest growing job: music directors and composers. I would never think that this job would be successful. The reason for its success in recent years is because there is a greater need for music in commercials and movies. I expected the fourth fastest growing job, interpreters and translators, to be higher up on the list. This job is growing because international trade and globalization is expanding every day. At first I didn't understand why massage therapists were number five, but after reading the article, I now do. The reasons for their growth is because of a rise in the number of spas and an increase in the population of elderly. After looking at this list, I am not thinking of switching my goal to a new profession. I am still interested in becoming a neuroradiologist. However, being an interpreter could be a good plan B. When choosing a job, my primary reason was money. But I also wanted to be happy. I narrowed down my search to jobs that pay well and then I chose the job in the field that I am most interested in.

DeleteThe jobs featured in the article are increasing in labor and products. The popularity is significant because this allows americans to acquire specialized employment. The jobs are providing crucial factors to production and other good that businesses and firms are interested in. the products from many of the listed occupations are in high demand because they go into development to make resources for the majority of the public. The information in this article has certainly given me a lot to think about regarding my own occupational and educational choices. Despite the number-crunching this post has inspired, I will continue to pursue my original choice. The primary reasoning behind my career choices and occupational decision was the long term life happiness and personal satisfaction.
ReplyDeleteSome of these jobs on this list were quite shocking to see. The reason for these jobs vary. For occupations like petroleum engineers and service unit operators for gas, oil, and mining, the reason for the explosive job growth is due to the increase of the use of oil and other energy sources and the increase in fracking that has occurred in recent years. The growth of jobs like interpreters and translators and human resources specialists is attributed to the growth of globalization. Human resources jobs are frequently outsourced and are in a constant demand while interpreters and translators are necessary for international trade and business. An increase in the number of salons and spas has led to an increase in the number of massage therapists and skin care specialists. As the baby boom generation ages, the number of jobs in personal care aides and personal financial advisors has increased due to the need for help in retirement homes and for planning their retirement. The need for music composers is on the rise because of the large amount of commercials and movies being made, both of which require original compositions most of the time. After reading this article, my choice for my future occupation has not changed. The occupation which I plan on pursuing is clinical psychologist. I chose my career because I'd rather have a job I am pleased with rather than a job that makes me miserable but has a high pay.
ReplyDeleteThere are four main reasons for why these jobs are in such high demand. Certain jobs such as personal care aides and personal financial advisors are in high demand because the growing elderly population needs people who are in these careers. Jobs such as translators and human resource specialists are in high demand because now the US is focusing on outsourcing and making more deals and trades in foreign markets. Petroleum engineers and service unit operators both are in high demand because of the growing need of oil, petroleum, and energy from new sources. Finally Music directors and composers are in high demand because of the need to compose musical sores for TV shows, commercials, and movies. When looking at these jobs I don’t think that I would like to try to seek employment in any of them. When I finally choose my career, I want to work in a job that will bring me satisfaction. I would have no motivation to work in a job that doesn't bring me satisfaction.
ReplyDeleteEach of the top ten jobs vary for the reason of demand. For jobs such as massage therapists and personal financial advisers, the demand was due to the increased number of older citizens from the baby boom generation. For translators and interpreters, the demand was due to globalization. The Hispanic population was growing, allowing the need for this job area on the rise. The demand for petroleum engineers and oil mining is due to the increased oil prices and the need for more energy resources. Looking at the list, I do not wish to change my future occupation choice. When picking a career, I mainly look towards whether or not I am going to be happy while doing it. I don't want to get a high-demand job and be unhappy.
ReplyDeleteBetween 2002 and 2012, the top 10 fastest growing jobs were service unit operators, petroleum engineers, music composers, translators, massage therapists, human resource specialists, coaches, financial advisors, personal aides, and skin care specialists. The two main reasons for the growth in these jobs are globalization and the aging baby boom population. As the baby boom population ages, they have an increased need for personal aides and salons to take care of them. This led to an increase in the amount of salons and spas, which meant more masseuses and skin care specialists were needed. Globalization has directly influenced the need for translators and human resource specialists. As companies spread around the world, people within the company must be able to communicate and work together efficiently. As the demand for oil grows around the world, prices have been increasing and companies are willing to spend more to extract more oil, which has caused growth in petroleum engineers and service unit operators. Recent economic concerns, including pension cuts for many jobs, has left people concerned about their economic stability in the future. The recommended amount of money to retire has continued to increase so people are turning to financial consultants to try to find a way to retire happily. I may attempt to pursue a career in high demand, but some of these jobs may not be in high demand when I begin job searching. I will need to try to predict which patterns of growth will continue and which will end to plan ahead for a career. However, my primary reason for pursuing a career will be happiness. It would be great if I can find a job I love that is also in high demand, but I will not take a job just for the money if I hate the job. I need to be motivated to work or I would not be productive in that job.
ReplyDeleteAccording to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), there were an increase in some occupations from the years 2002-2012. These are the top 10 fastest-growing jobs at the moment in America and this is mainly due to the fact that the U.S. demographics continue to change with each year. For example, the baby boom generation has people who need help with retirement planning which means the U.S. needs a higher amount of financial advisors. Also, the need for personal care aides increased as well since more people need help going through their daily lives. Next to finance advisors and personal aides are the growth for petroleum engineers and service unit operators. This is because of the changes in the energy sector such as the rise in oil prices which mean a higher need to produce unconventional sources like shale oil. However, I would not prefer to change my current goal to seeking employment for an occupation in higher demand because they have nothing to do with what I enjoy and want to major in which is Computer Science. The primary reasons I would continue my goal to get my major in Computer Science would be the money and satisfaction of accomplishing a goal I would always enjoy.
ReplyDeleteService Unit Operators, Petroleum Engineers, Music Directors and Composers, Interpreters and Translators, Massage Therapists, Human Resource Specialists, Coaches and Scouts, Personal Financial Advisers, Personal Care Aides, and Skin Care Specialists were the top 10 fastest growing jobs in the United States in the ten years from 2002-2012. These jobs are in such demand for a few different reasons. Personal Care Aides, Personal Financial Advisers, Massage Therapists, and Coaches are in such high demand due to the aging population of America which consists of the baby boomer generation. These careers provide services that are becoming increasingly relevant to older individuals which is causing their extreme growth. Service Unit Operators and Petroleum Engineers, the two fastest growing careers within the period, are in such demand due to our rising energy consumption and the need to more efficiently produce energy and also to discover new sources of energy. The growth of Interpreters and Translators and Human Resource Specialists can be attributed to the increasing globalization that is occurring in our world today. Music Directors and Composers are in such high demand due to the need for new music scores for television commercials and movies. After looking at this list, I do not prefer to change my current goal to seek an occupation in high demand. The jobs on the list may be in great demand but they are just not for me and the fact that they are in high demand does not make me want to go into any of those career fields. I do not think anyone should choose a career simply because it is in high demand if it will make them miserable. When choosing an occupation, I would like to think my primary reason for the choice would be satisfaction and happiness which are important to have, while my secondary reason would most likely be the salary.
ReplyDeleteThis article was very interesting. Most of the top ten fastest growing jobs mentioned in this article grew due to an aging population. The baby boomer population is nearing retirement and old age, so jobs like massage therapists, financial planners, skin specialists, and coaches are on the rise. Some of the other jobs mentioned in the list are on the rise due to changes in the energy industry. For example, service unit operating and petroleum engineering jobs expanded due to higher oil and gas prices.
ReplyDeleteI think it's very important for young people to be conscientious of future job prospects. It's important to make sure that the degree your getting in college will actually be beneficial to you in the future, or you might end up unemployed and stuck with student loan debt. Before I decide on my major in college, future job prospects will definitely be a metric that I keep in mind. Overall the two most important things I'll look for in my future career is a high salary, and high interest. I would like my future job to be challenging and educational.
I find it interesting on how jobs can take advantage on such factors like aging in a population and then use that advantage to propel them to the highest success level they can possibly reach. Most of the companies that were previously listed before were companies that specialized in skin care, insurance, Interpreters and translators, etc. The world is changing from increase of immigrants to increase of retirees to rapid energy increases and these jobs capitalized on the factors alone and should enjoy there future success.
ReplyDeleteI might be speaking from an ignorant standpoint here when i say this, but when it comes down to choosing a lifelong career its all about the money. Especially if there is extra expenses to be paid, you need money to pay them off. Now, doing what you love is great but doing what you love and then getting paid for doing it is the best thing america has to offer.
The jobs listed are in such demand due to a variety of factors. As a result of the aging baby boom generation, personal financial jobs and personal care aides have seen growth because elders need assistance in retirement planning and care. The aging population has also created a demand for coaches and massage therapists. Interpreters and translators have risen because of international trade and globalization. Likewise, contemporary immigration patterns have reflected an increasing Hispanic population that has driven a rise in this occupation as well. For petroleum engineers and service unit operators, high oil prices and the need to produce oil from new sources have attributed to its growth. After going through the list, I would not change my original career choice for an occupation in higher demand. When choosing an occupation, I look forward to a significantly high pay and satisfaction.
ReplyDeleteBetween 2002 and 2012 the top 10 fastest growing jobs in America, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, are skin care specialists, personal care aids, personal financial advisers, coaches and scouts, human resources specialists, massage therapists, interpreters and translators, music directors and composers, petroleum engineers, and service unit operators, oil, gas and mining. With the baby booming population growing older and in time for retirement, jobs such as personal finance advisers, personal care aides, massage therapists, coaches, and skin care specialists are increasing. The baby boomers aren't the sole reason for job increases either, petroleum engineering and service unit operating jobs are increasing due to the changes within the energy sector. Jobs like translators or interpreters are mainly due to foreign population increases such as the Hispanics.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I do not want to change my current goal for a higher demanding job because when it comes to a higher demanding job the competition to get the job is quite high and the chances seem quite slim. I would rather go to a university and earn a higher level degree so I can get a good job that is not in high demand yet requires a level of high specification. When choosing an occupation I seek mainly for a job that has happiness, money and convenience. Knowing that finding a job that contains all of those factors is near impossible, I would like to have a job that I enjoy doing and getting paid a high salary.
As Hess aptly puts it, “When the baby boom generation ages, many more people need help planning for retirement.” But not only this; rather, the mass changes in immigration, with an influx in the Hispanic minority, have obviously had significant impacts on our focus on human resources. All of these jobs – from financial adviser to massage therapist – all benefit an older population, ready to retire and, for the most part, enjoy the fruits of their labor. As the mass population gets older, the younger will service that sector, since it is in highest demand.
ReplyDeleteAs of now, I do not see myself switching gears to a salon owner. The majority of these jobs, despite being secure in their high demands, are still low-income/middle class. Unfortunately, my passion lies in a liberal arts (writing), which is a poor and risky sector for making money, since most people don’t see a need for more writers. Instead, I look for the satisfaction in a job, not necessarily the undesirable labor that could give me a secure career.
Regardless, human interests are serving an aging population – and the working masses will service this as long as it brings economic security.
The jobs are in demand due to varied reasons. The aging baby-boomer population and their luxury, financial and health needs can explain the increase in jobs, such as Massage therapy, personal financial advice, Personal care assistance, and coaching. The increase in oil prices and the need for more energy sources can be attributed to the demand for petroleum engineers and service unit operators. The influx of hispanic peoples to the United States as well as increasing globalization is the cause of the increase in the demand for translators and human resource specialists. As new movies and commercials are made, a need for original scores arise which explains the increase in music composers. An increase in skin care services has led to an increase in skin care specialists.
ReplyDeleteI do not plan on changing my current occupational goal to seek a job in higher demand. When choosing an occupation the primary reason for the choice would have to be money. Happiness is a close second, but I always check the average salary when I look at potential jobs.
Looking from a socioeconomic perspective, the sharp increase in careers of the human service sector is feasible. Due to changes in demographics, as Hess states, minority introduction to America has led to the creation and need for more interpreters. In a society ruled by the media, it is logical that the music industry has flourished – despite being an artistic pursuit. Regardless, these jobs provide security for the young as they take care of the old, a consequence of a baby boomer period that has turned the majority of our population into retirees.
ReplyDeleteMy current passion is in medicine, and I plan to be a doctor and attend medical school. I was generally surprised that this occupation was not on the list, since it is a constantly growing field as technology has improved from 2002 to 2012 (when this analysis was made). In my case, I share both a love for biology and the happiness of a good income if I am successful in my field. Yet there will always be a strong need for a financial adviser for an aged generation, or a massage therapist to pleasure those who can afford such leisure (without jobs). Human resources is a booming field, especially as our population grows.
Most of these jobs are in such of a high demand because of all the elderly and natural resource prices. Since the baby boom of those babies are now old meaning there is a high demand in jobs that treat the elderly. Also the increase in trade has created a need for more Interpreters and Translators. The most shocking for me was how much we were in demand for Petroleum Engineers because I thought since cars got better MPG this might cause the oil prices to drop.
ReplyDeleteThis doesn't change my current goal because this seems temporary because when all those old people die there probably won't be such a high demand. Also the thing I look for in a job is happiness because it is the only true end. If my job makes me money and that money makes me happy that's a job I want, meanings money is only an end used to reach the true end which is happiness.
This list of jobs is such high demand because of the demographics of the United States. A majority of these jobs include the retirees, mainly being the elderly. The aging of our population is leading to jobs that elder retirees enjoy such as golfing, playing tennis, going to spas, and other luxurious activities. As the baby boom generation ages there will be an even higher demand for these jobs considering many of them revolve around each other. The old people want people to help them manage their savings, which makes personal financial advisers a high demand job as well as Skin care specialists, petroleum engineers, massage therapists, and service unit operators allowing the production of more oils to make more lotions that the skin care specialists use for their spas.
ReplyDeleteLooking at this list of high demand jobs do not change my ideal career. In a profession i wish to choose, i will be doing because of my passion for business and for the money because i enjoy leisure time. It may be easier to find a job in one of the high demand areas, but it doesn't change my preference
Between 2002 and 2012 the top 10 fastest growing jobs in America, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, are skin care specialists, personal care aids, personal financial advisers, coaches and scouts, human resources specialists, massage therapists, interpreters and translators, music directors and composers, petroleum engineers, and service unit operators, oil, gas and mining. These occupations all seem related to products and labor. With the baby booming population growing older and in time for retirement, jobs such as personal finance advisers, personal care aides, massage therapists, coaches, and skin care specialists are increasing. Interpreters and translators have risen because of international trade and globalization. For petroleum engineers and service unit operators, oil production has attributed to its growth. After going through the list, I would not change my original career choice for an occupation in higher demand, i feel these are temporary and wouldn't give me a solid career. When choosing an occupation, I look forward to studying geography. Having an occupation i enjoy is my happiness.
ReplyDeleteThese jobs are in such a high demand because of a variety of different reasons but are all due to changes in our society and people. Interpreters and translators are included on the list because of the increased amount of immigration in America; Personal Care Aids and Finance Advisors, Massage Therapists and Coaches have increased due to the population of people born during the baby boom age growing old and nearing retirement; and our increased dependence on gasoline and petroleum have increased our need for the Petroleum Engineers and Service Unit Operators. who drill and provide us with this natural resource. My future occupation has not changed after viewing this list, I know I can still be a successful and well payed Physician and business owner. When thinking about an occupation of course I think about money because I'm going to need to provide for myself and my family in my future but I also think of the benefits I'll be able to provide to the world.
ReplyDeleteThe majority of the occupations mentioned in this article have grown because of the demographic changes in our society. As Hess put it “The nation’s aging population and changing energy needs played major roles in driving disproportionate job growth for many of the occupations listed below”.
ReplyDeleteAs the children the “baby boom” turned into elderly they required the help of certain industries, thus stimulating certain jobs whose main audiences were the elderly. Such as personal care aides, personal financial advisors, and message therapists.
Another drive for jobs was in the natural resource department. These jobs were the fastest-growing on the list and included operators in oil, gas, and miners. These jobs have the potential to rack up a lot of money; however they are very risky because they depend on the profitability of the natural resource at that current time. These jobs may have gone up in the past decade because of the high demand for oil and gas but I think they will go done in the future because of the transition from oil to electricity. Our world has recently becoming more conservative in the use of natural resources and when the demand for natural resources decreases so will the demand for the workers that “produce” these substances.
The jobs that are in demand are all due to the fact that there has been a change in government policy, needs of a community, and also a aging workforce in a specific job. For example with a shift to subsidies in the oil industry the jobs of drillers and oil engineers are in high demand. after seeing the list I have not changed my future goal of employment because it is also in high demand. When looking for a career I want something that I can get get a job in, enjoy it, and make enough money that I can have an above average house, which believe it or not is harder than it sounds to find.
ReplyDeleteThe occupations listed are in such high demand because of many various reasons. Each of course being in a different category and "need." The Financial Advisers and Massage Therapists etc., were mentioned because of the "baby boomers" and increasing number of elderly folk who are more frequently going to these places, so the number of employees would obviously have to increase to keep up with those numbers. The gas operators, petroleum engineers, etc.., were mentioned because of the increase in need for oil drillers and the high "demand" for such. That particular resource is in very high demand which is why it is no surprise that jobs in that category and more elevated than others. The translators and interpreters were probably in high demand because of globalization and non - english speakers being introduced into this country, so for them to speak in the common language of the country they would need people to assist them, which is where the demand for those people come in. Seeing these jobs do not change or altar my future occupation. I chose that occupation out of hopeful lifetime happiness. I would not choose these occupations if they do not interest me in the slightest, However it did make me want to look into my field of interest and see outlets in which I can make more money.

ReplyDeletehe demographics of the United States is truly changing in areas considering age, self preferences, and availability of work. Looking at this list of jobs on high demand, they mainly seek to help the elderly, who affect our job market more than we would imagine due to their needs of health. We live in a different social world, where what was the norm back then is abnormal now. Therefore, the high demand for music directors and composers is right up my alley. This list does not necessarily change my outlook for a future occupation, due to the fact that I do plan on becoming a music director and composer. Personally, I look for satisfaction in work, and I believe that if you're doing what you love, the finances will come soon as a reward. I would rather be a jolly poor man, than a miserable rich man.
ReplyDeleteThe fastest growing jobs in America continue to increase it's number in response to demands for energy, demographic fluctuation, and expansion of international trade despite recent economic downturn. I do not plan to change my future goal because the job will always be in demand. The United States and the world have a scarce amount of trained doctors to treat those in need, therefore the demand has never shifted. Many factors attribute to Job selection some being money, satisfaction, convenience, and happiness. Some factors that have led me to select the medical field was the concept of helping the world while getting pair pretty modestly. The job I seek to one day work as is a Microbiologist for the CDC, the job demands finding the cure. For the most part the it sounds interesting, pays good, and makes an impact on the world. I want to leave my mark on the world and be remembered.
ReplyDeleteSome of the occupations listed were truly surprising, but with the changing demographics and needs of the United States, it is reasonable. As the baby boomer generations age it is likely that personal care aides, financial advisors, and massage therapists are growing. As they look to retirement, they will need assistance both financially and personally. As the Hispanic population grows, we need to be able to communicate in order to accommodate this budding population. Even high school students recognize the importance of learning another language for a future career, with many of our own students enrolled in Spanish and French classes.
ReplyDeleteMy surprise comes from the lack of growth in technology based careers, with the exception of engineering and service operator units. As a country with a growing reliance on technology on a whole, one would think that more would focus on making technology smarter and more compact.
After browsing any different websites from what majors would provide the most lucrative careers, and which to avoid for a penniless future, looking at this list made me realize that while salary and growing trends are extremely important factors in choosing a job, I should look to find something where I can look forward every day.
Most of the highest growing jobs on the list did not surprise me, such as the petroleum engineers, service unit operators, interpreters and translators, skin care specialists, and human resource officer, and music directors and composers. All of these increasing job opportunities are due to the high and rising demand for these types of workers. Society is always trying to level out the flaws of their body by falling to skin care products and makeup, and the continual use of petroleum and music directors is due to the rising need for gasoline and original compositions in advertisements, movies, and shows. The most surprising ones were the coaches and massage therapists, but is not as shocking when you account for the amount of elderly in America now-a-days. Looking at the list did not change my mind which answers the next question. I would rather to pursue my future hopes of becoming either an architect or engineer because I would rather enjoy what I do. I tend to lose interest and focus on subjects that bore me, no matter what additional benefits, i.e. money, that are guaranteed with jobs.
ReplyDeleteThese careers are in such high demand due to a shift in our time. Between 2002 and 2012 there has been such a major change in technology and medicine. These advances allows our jobs to witness a shift as well. A baby boom and medicine allowing elders to live longer, caused for a the growing jobs that are in demand. We are more of an individualized society which calls for jobs like skin care, message therapist, fitness coach and etc. The list somewhat did surprise me, but when I read the reasoning it made sense. It still does not me to reevaluate my choice in career. The first reason to my choice in money but I have chosen something I love and researched what I would make most of. I want to do what I love and not be stuck somewhere where life just goes on. I want a career and not a job.
ReplyDeleteThe fastest growing jobs in the United states are mostly related to natural resources (i.e. oil), health services, and a very general american pop culture (i.e. coaches, music producers). They are in hhigh deman becasue of the increased enviromental awareness and the want to lower fuel dependecy and increase fuel efficiency, and because of the changing age demographics. As people age, they want different products. We see a very strong teenage age demographic very inmersed in the music industry, and a middle age group with financial troubles, both reflecting on the growth of those industries.
ReplyDeleteUpon looking for a job, I find that happyness and pay are the two most important factors. I like to think that having fun at work to make money and spend it in a way that is also fun is a win win for myself. I intend to have a degree in civil engineering and to join the Navy as an officer, and reading this top ten list does not influence my desition.
These careers are in demand mostly because of the changing demographics and the demands of those who fall under the demographics. The rise in the number of elderly in the US population is rising higher because the children born in the Baby Boomer era are aging. The job market has shifted to meet the needs of consumers. Four out of the ten top ten jobs are related to the care taking of the aging Baby Boomers, and another job was related to the growth of Hispanic populations in the US. The jobs are in demand because they provide a service that is beneficial and are desired by the consumer. I have no desire nor do I feel swayed to alter my course due to the article. My course is not motivated or incentivized by money. The path I follow is of my passions. My dreams, my goals, my wishes. I follow my heart and run on ambition.
ReplyDeleteThe careers that are in heavy demand are in demand because of the need and wants of americans. as the times change the demands change, medicine is increased and there for people live longs so they need 2 be taken care of so jobs in that felid have risen. No i do not wish 2 change my career choice is already in high demand. pay is my prime motivation.
ReplyDeleteLooking at these fast growing jobs, I am willing to work toward one of these jobs and abandon my original goal. The reason I would do so is because then i would have more assurance that i will be able to find a job because they are in such a demand. And i know it could be very hard to find a job that you had major in in college. Also many of these jobs do not require much schooling time. Jobs i would be interested in is Service unit operators or an interpreter and translator.
ReplyDeleteWhen I am choosing an occupation for my future, my primary reason is happiness because i do not want to have a job that i hate but i only stay there because of the high pay. Happiness is important because when you wake up to go to work you do not want to dread it. People who say they hate Mondays do not actually hate the day Monday but the fact of starting work again on Monday because they hate their job and are not happy with it. Convenience is another factor i consider when choosing a job.
